Pricing and Quotes

How much does it cost to ship a car?

Price depends mainly on distance, route, vehicle size, open or enclosed transport, whether the vehicle runs, and the season. Short regional moves cost less per trip, while coast-to-coast moves cost more. Our car shipping cost guide shows typical price ranges by distance. For your exact price, request a free quote.

Is the quote free?

Yes. Quotes are free and there is no obligation to book.

Why do some quotes look much cheaper than others?

A price far below the market rate for a route often doesn’t attract a driver, which can mean long delays before pickup or a higher price later. We aim to quote a realistic price that a carrier will actually accept for your route and dates.

Is enclosed transport worth the extra cost?

For classic, vintage, luxury, exotic or freshly restored vehicles, usually yes, because the car is protected from weather and road debris. For most daily drivers, open transport is the practical choice. Compare both in our open vs. enclosed guide.

Do I have to pay upfront?

No. Getting a quote and booking are free. Payment is charged on the day your vehicle is picked up, not before.

Can I cancel my booking?

Yes. You can cancel at no charge up to 7 days before your scheduled pickup date.

Booking, Pickup and Timing

How far in advance should I book?

Booking 1 to 2 weeks ahead gives the most flexibility on price and pickup dates, especially in busy seasons such as fall and spring snowbird moves. Shorter notice is often possible, so call us if you’re in a hurry.

How long does car shipping take?

There are two parts: the time until pickup and the time on the truck. Many pickups happen within a few days of booking, depending on the route. Once loaded, drivers typically cover about 400 to 500 miles per day under federal hours-of-service rules, so a cross-country trip usually takes about a week or more. We give you an estimated pickup window and delivery estimate for your route; exact dates can shift with weather, traffic and other stops.

What does door-to-door mean?

The driver picks up and delivers as close to your addresses as is safe and legal for a large truck. If your street is too narrow or has restrictions, the driver will arrange to meet you at a nearby open lot. Learn more about door-to-door auto shipping.

Do I need to be there at pickup and delivery?

You or a trusted adult you choose needs to be present to hand over or receive the keys, inspect the vehicle with the driver and sign the bill of lading.

Can you ship a car that doesn’t run?

Yes. Tell us the vehicle doesn’t run when you fill out the quote form so we can arrange a carrier with a winch. Inoperable vehicles usually cost a bit more to ship.

Can you pick up from a dealership or auction?

Yes. Send us the pickup location and any release form or gate pass, and we’ll schedule the pickup.

Insurance and Safety

Is my car insured during transport?

Yes. Your vehicle is covered by our cargo insurance, with coverage up to $1,000,000, from pickup until delivery. You can ask us for a copy of the certificate of insurance before pickup.

Can I track my shipment?

Yes. You get tracking for your shipment and updates from pickup through delivery. You can also call or text us any time at (717) 340-0008.

What if my car is damaged?

Inspect your vehicle carefully at delivery, before signing the bill of lading, and note any new damage on it with photos. Then contact us right away so we can help you start a claim. See our guide on how to inspect your vehicle before and after transport.

Is Roadline Carriers licensed?

Yes. Roadline Carriers Inc is a licensed motor carrier registered with the U.S. Department of Transportation under USDOT 4421876 and MC 1738605. You can look up both numbers on the FMCSA website.

Preparing Your Car

Can I leave personal items in my car?

Ask us before you pack anything. Rules vary by carrier, and personal belongings are generally not covered by the carrier’s vehicle cargo insurance. We recommend removing valuables, documents and loose items. Read more in can you ship a car with personal items inside?

How should I prepare my car for shipping?

  • Wash the car so existing scratches and dents are easy to see at inspection.
  • Take dated photos of every side.
  • Remove personal items, toll tags and loose accessories.
  • Leave about a quarter tank of fuel or less.
  • Tell us about any mechanical issues, modifications or low ground clearance.
